This is my tribute to Jemima!

Jemima is the black and white (and red) kitten. She is said to be the youngest Jellicle and attending her first ever Jellicle Ball. As far as I can see she is pretty key to the story of CATS- without her, Grizabella would not have been accepted again. Jemima was not afraid to approach Grizabella, but the adults pulled her away, and she was not predjudiced against her like most of the others. She also was the first one to understand what Old Deuteronomy was saying about happiness. She sings (beautifully!) with Grizabella, and is willing to accept her and forgive her for whatever she is supposed to have done.

People often say Jemima is "sweet" "innocent" "forgving" "naive" etc. I'm not sure I agree with the "naive"... (in fact, I'm sure I don't agree!) She knows what she's doing, she knows what the world can be like- she just isn't prepared to accept that there has to be so much badness out there, and wants to do something about it.

Why she's so great: She is sweet! She's also very kind, and forgiving. But she's also most definitely a real kitten, likes having fun with her friends, and erm, Tugger... She was my immediate favourite cat when I first saw the video... I guess I thought I could identify with her in a way, I generally am "good" and have been called sweet, but a lot of people don't seem to realise I like to be crazy too (OK, all you lot probably will have realised that a long time ago... but I'm often nowhere near even this confident in "real", non internet life-- or at least that's how I felt those years ago at the start of my CATS obsession.)

Performers I've seen/heard as Jemima: I've obviously heard Sarah Brightman on the original cast CD; live, I've seen Caroline Bagnall and Claire Parrish...and two more who's names I don't have right now... ^^My favourite remains Veerle Castelyn/Helen Massie on the video :) Veerle has exactly the kind of look I always crush on in a major way (...or maybe it's just that ever since I've fallen for people I think look like Jemima!?) and acts so Jem-ishly... Helen Massie's voice is amazing... I wish I knew more about here! I also wish I could hear Veerle Castelyn live... apparently she has a lovely voice too (and was dubbed because of her English not her non-singing-ability! XD) I don't know who it was who sings Sillabub/Jemima on the French cast recording, but she's preeeetty too!
