I'm writing this in a huge hyper panic that I may forget something... my fingers seem to have forgotten how to type properly... I'm wearing a cats t-shirt, a music scarf around my waist, a brown collar, pom poms in my hair and I've just taken off my fingerless gloves....
Yes, ladies (and, as Tugger would say '*sigh* gentlemen'), this is
The Date: Umm well according to my computer clock it's the 1st of May. 1934. ^^;;
Let's try again.
The Date: 22nd December 2003
The Venue: Oxford, New Theatre (named after the New London???)
The Verdict: WAAAAIIII!!! EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
HFJGNGJFGNGGG!!!!!!!!!!!! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
...
...
...
...
OK, now The Show Report!!!!!!!
I'm going to TRY to remember everything and write it down in my usual scatter-headed way. Hold on tight....
Going in. Wow, they're actually putting CATS on in what used to be the Apollo!! The huge proscenium arch stage that I needed opera glasses to see faces on... the red velvet curtains... the fourth wall standing firm... (LOL, can you tell I've taken up Theatre Studies?????)
All gone.
Well, there was still a lot of red velvety stuff, but not anywhere near the stage. It was done up beeeautifully in Jellicle fashion. I'd been getting excited on the way there, but this..... EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
So. Sat down. Talked hyperly,
loudly and incomprehensibly to anyone who would(n't) listen.
Stood up, went to the loo, fixed pom poms in hair. Oh yeah, and
I'd already bought a show programme and another brochure (it's
a DIFFERENT one than the ones I've already got!!) Sat down again.
Waited.
ANYWAY, I'd better get onto the show itself soon....
Overture. People TALKING a lot in it!! BLUE cats eyes and lights flashing around everywhere! (and by everywhere, I really mean it - strings of lights all across the ceiling to the back of the auditorium)
People shut up when they realised there were CATS running around!!!!! EEEEEE!!! I was sitting in the dress circle, right in the middle of a block in the middle of a row. Which meant I personally got no cat contact today :( But I did actually have a perfect view of the stage, so that was v. good.
Jellicle Songs: I was following all the cats with my eyes, trying to remember where they all popped up from (getting it right mostly, hehe.) All through I was kinda hoping that people.... Tugger and Mungojerrie to be specific.... XD were looking at ME... which they may have been!!! Honest!! I WAS right in the middle, and my outfit and hairdo was.... distinctive. ANYWAY.
The Anjellicle Choir bit was great, this was when I first noticed Mungojerrie and his wonderfull-ness..... (more on this later ^^) Him and Skimbleshanks were sooo funny with their... expressive acting :) Mungo did a lot of ear scratching... especially when the boot came down. Lovely. Duets by Rossini and Waltzes by Strauss.... the whole cast, and orchestra too, was SO over the top here, totally brilliant.
"There's a man over there
with a look of surprise....." Loved this bit :) I loved
the way that in this production they said the line "What's
a Jellicle Cat???" in a really scornful way like: "You
mean you don't KNOW???" which is how I think it should be
said! (So I'm pleased when I get my way, lol....)
The Naming of Cats..... this was one of the bits that I kinda pitied people who didn't know the lyrics already :_) Must have been veeery hard to understand for them. Haha, but since I DID know every word they were saying (I had to stop myself mouthing/singing along....).... I was fine with it! Ooh, Alonzo did a little pose when his name was mentioned :) Probably others did too but I didn't notice.
There was stuff going on ALL over the auditorium... in the aisle a few rows back Jemima and Carbucketty(? I think) were narrating and there were only about five cats left on the stage at one point.... All back for name name name name....... then Viccy's solo.
I didn't notice Victoria that much except in her important moments.... and certain moments with Tugger... :) That could actually have been because I was watching other people *cough* TuggerMungojerrieRumpelteazer*cough* a LOT.... Anyway, her dance was tres beautiful, VERY controlled and sweet. You couldn't actually hear the gasps but I got the feeling that people were being *silent* in that very special way that's practically the same thing :) Interestingly though, she didn't raise her leg up anywhere near her head!
Invitation To The Jellicle
Ball....... and here we meet Quaxo/Misto properly for the first
time. He was a VERY interesting character! Played quite differently
than I've seen, certainly than the video, and so intriguing I
have an urge to write a fanfic about it..... Um... more about
him to come, I'm sure :)
Basically, by the way, I think you may have noticed I'm concentrating
a LOT on the characters and how they were played... This is because
I find that very cool.
Munkustrap! ...It was weird, his recitivey bits here were so similar and at the same time as the Michael Gruber in the video..... :) Not that this is a bad thing in any way. He was more ... expressive, I think, on things like "Silence you could cut with a knife," though. V. nice.
And now more about Quax. Here he was, ordering everyone around, shooing them into place! For a minute you think "huh? Misto?" ...then you see him look at Munku - "Is this right?" He was SUCH a Munku-fan in the first act especially. Well, maybe that's not quite right.... but basically he did seem to idolize our grey tabby and try to do everything like him; quite the little control freak sometimes, it was very funny. He was so ostentatiously cuuute as sometimes, but at the same time ended up being quite sweet through his 'properness'.
Jennyanydots!! Jenny herself
was probably one of the stand-out characters.... Very... well,
sexay!!! But, getting this in order....
Munku starts getting people in their places.... Misto helps him....
Jelly, Bomba and Dem start singing (more about them to come.......)
Misto (Quaxo, sorry.... ignore the occasional slip ^^) first sat in the middle, nodding to everyone at everything Munku said.... Then he went up onto the car trunk lid, posed a lot and looked very self important... Munku sat down on it as he continued his narration, Quaxo waved his hands and - nothing happened!! He looked very puzzled for a second then (politely) gestured for Munk to get off, and the trunk opened, yeye :)
Revealing Jenny in all her puffy costumed glory! But the best bit came in the tap sequences etc when she took off the costume (or rather, Dem, Bomb, Jelly and Munk did, with Misto helping...) She was... dunno how to describe other than the aforementioned v. sexay! Very much full of fun. Obviously shouting at the cockroaches v. commandingly, but she wasn't 'posh'.... quite a different accent than usual.
Anyway, the tap dances were GREAT. And I loved it. So much so that I actually forgot what was coming next..........
TUGGER!! - Jenny yelled and dived under her puffy costume...
And out he strode. Tugger.
The Rum Tum Tugger. The Idol, the Rockstar, Elvis and Captain
Jack Sparrow rolled into one. And NOT played by John Partridge.
Now, much as I tried to remove them, I had had Worries about
this.... like so many of us, to me John Partridge=Tugger. Which
he still does, by the way. But so does *checks programme... I'm
not putting too many names in here I know, but I'll put the whole
list at the end* Stuart Ramsay. Loud, crazy, similar to John
in many ways, but certainly not a little clone :) I laid my Worries
to rest and sat back and enjoyed.
Gaaaah, it is SO hard to describe properly!! Fortunately, I'm going to CATS again on the 3rd of January and hopefully I'll enlist the help of Norbert and Lina to write a really really good report then! But for now... Gaah, what can I say?? He was so Tugger! The hips, the voice, the mane flick, the air guitar, everything :) In the little audience participationy bit, all he did was sit down next to a random man in the front row and fling his arm around his shoulder and point to stuff on stage, but he made that hilarious!
And I loved the way he said, nay yelled, "MUDDLE!!"
You had to be there, I guess....
The rejecting-Bomba bit was nice, a little different - they got very close and it was all: "will he, won't he...?" NAAAH! and she fell forwards into the splits! (very nice.)
The kittens weren't all that screamy at the end... well, they were, but it seemed to take them a second to catch on when he'd stopped singing abooooouuuuuuuuuu (which he did brilliantly, by the way)... Rumpelteazer (yes, it was her! No Etcy or El in the Tour!!) was very good with her last scream though... Tugger looked at her, sort of rolled his eyes and casually chucked the tip of his tail in her mouth, which shut her up instantly :)
Tugger, overall... I keep trying to say something bad about him, but there isn't anything! All there is... I think John Partridge was MORE crazy... as you would be playing that part for however many years! - but I never felt that any craziness was lacking Stuart Ramsay's Rum Tum Tugger.
Grizabella! Chrissie Hammond was supposed to be performing tonight, but Griz was one of the FOUR parts that were played by understudies (guess everyone was ill! The others were Jemima, Tantomile and SOMEONE who I can't remember! They just rattled them off at the beginning - it MAY have been Cassandra) Though I think I probably like Chrissie Hammond better, I have seen her live twice, so a change was nice :)
(why am I using the smiley so much???)
Ooh, new way of doing words (always fun!) Who'd have ever supposed that thaT... They really spat the word THAT with a firm T at the end, rather than crescendoing on it. Same with CAT. And it worked!! Not sure which way I like better. Nice touch, anyway.
Bustopher Jones! Was v. cool. And Misto/Quaxo was such a little snob in this!! Hehe, following Bustopher around and pretending to be deeply interested in what he was saying about the Senior Educational... Ooh, here's a moment for Carbucketty and Bill Bailey (who I keep calling Pounce and Tumble, sorry!) - stalking BJ! Seriously, they kept walking just behind him, probably laughing at him, hehe. Throughout, actually, they were working as a funny VERY mischeivous little double act.
Bustopher himself was CUTE too, very light hearted and happy as he slowly overbalanced on the chair, to be caught just in time by Alonzo and - you guessed it - Quaxo!
Little moments: Bomba's wonderful bluntness on "In fact, he's remarkably FAT!" , Jenny's sense of shouting a conspiritorial whisper (does that make sense??) "He's a TWENTY FIVE POUNDER!!"
The end of the song was v. grand indeed, and I loved BJ's "Toooooooodle pip!" (that was how he said it!)
CRASH BANG FLASH OF LIGHT ETC!!!!
Ah, I always forget just how AMAZING and INVOLVING this is on stage.... the lighting throughout, especially all exploding bits, was AWESOME.
Then.... MUNGOJERRIE AND RUMPELTEAZER!!!!!!!!! Ohhhh, my goodness.
Quite possibly my favourite characters. Well, I mean they are that anyway, but in this show specifically. Tugger's still pretty high on my list though :) But Mungo and Teazer... Wow.
I've found them! This is the pair I've been thinking about and writing about all along that I never *quite* saw on the video or in London... I don't know how they did it, but they tapped my mind and everything they did was perfect! (well, actually the accents weren't quite the same as I write, but pretty close!! They were SORT OF light cockney... and almost: "Rumpeltoiser!" - Bronx??) ANYWAY. Loverly.
Now to describe why they were so brilliant... It wasn't so much in this song (though that itself was excellent!!) as their performance overall that made me love them so much... But OK, their song itself. Great. And yet again I wonder how on earth they have the lung power to SING while doing all that! You could sometimes kinda hear them taking huuge gasps of air, but they always sang fine! (Well, maybe the huuuge gasps of air were rather amplified by the microphones..... there were moments when they REALLY should have been turned down. Not in this song, more the chorus numbers, and in the orchestra sometimes) ANYWAY.
In general....
Mungojerrie: adorably mischievous, and if there'd been a camera he'd have been mugging it for all he was worth. He posed a lot and waved at the audience, and pointed at himself, doing a mini-Tugger impression sometimes. Oooh, and I forgot to mention... in Tugger's song itself (amazed I looked away from the great Rum Tum long enough to notice this?? I am!) he did a bit of strutting around behind specially for Teazer. SO CUTE!
Rumpelteazer: ...and apparently this is the actress' professional debut. Nice one *checks programme* Laura Brydon! Sweet, defininately mischievous with a WONDERFUL cute giggle! Also very full of herself at times with the "AAAAND.... Rumpelteazer!" And had lovely serious moments tooo.... Will go onto them later...
First....
Together: ...and yes I do mean as couple, by the way :) Big MungoTeazer shipping ahead!!! In this performance, I hope no one would claim these two were just siblings!! They were practically inseperable throughout, and flirting and playing together the whole time. They had a lot of 'youth and innocence' type stuff (articulate...) about them, and such a cute little relationship. I've been thinking more about the whole idea of Touch in CATS... These two were touching and hugging all over the place, very open, very cute.
Oh yeah... and more about their song! Brilliant giggling and shushing like I said. FULL of energy. Double cartwheels were so cool. Right across the stage, which I'm sure is BIGGER stage than in London!
And the rest of the meanie cats came along and chucked their bags out. Awww!
And conveniently, the next song is Old Deuteronomy, which gave Mungo and Teazer a chance to show their adorable tender sides... But, OK, first, back to Misto... Quaxo, sorry. "Old Deuteronomy." It was said not as a question, but as a sort of happy sigh - he KNEW Old Deut was coming, and was probably quite proud of knowing that! After a quick check with Munk, he dashed off stage.
There was a nice bit of Munk and Tugger interaction here, although nothing too big yet. Munk kept making little "what'reyoudoinghere?" faces surreptitiously at Tugger...
Misto rushed back to Munk, who sent him back ("Now go GET Old D, OK??" hehe, or something) and he returned leading Old Deuteronomy up the stairs before dashing off again to join the chorus. That's another think about this Quaxo... although he could be very elagent and stuff, he was also always in hurry, very eager to get things done.
Old Deuteronomy! Yes, very nice walking rug indeed :) Ooh, a quote from a very nice review of CATS described Old D as "portensiously furry"!!! No real relevance, I just think that's such a perfect quote, along of course with Norbert's "walking rug". Anyway, Old D was good. Solemn but warm . He was old indeed, the way he walked - not limping or shaking or anything, but as if he was very stiff. Nice bit of physical acting there :) Nice voice too (Gaah, Miss Kent would kill me for the amount of times I've used the word "nice"!!! And I honestly mean things are nice too!) He had SOME accent that I couldn't quite place... it may have just been a very careful pronounciation of each word... ...kinda like Morpheus! (another clue I tells ya!!!!!!!! ....CATS/Matrix crossover! ....NEVER MIND!!) When I got an autograph in the interval I saw (well, heard) that he had a Scottish accent actually.
Is that enough non Mungo or Teazer related content for you? Good, let's get back to them. This was one of their CUTE quiet moments, they sat together, Mungo with his arms around Teazer and just listened, looking honestly entralled and interested, and serious and solemn.... and maybe as if all this was new to them? More about them (yes, MORE!) in the Moments of Happiness!
In fact, more about them sooner than that, because the next scene is........ Of The Aweful Battle of the Pekes and Pollicles Together with Some Account of the Participation of the Pugs and Poms and the Intervention of the Great Rumpus Cat!!!!!
Munkustrap.... organizing everyone (no talking this time) Misto/Quaxo.... same thing! Munkustrap was very good in this, made people laugh with the "I don't know the reason.... but some people think he slipped into the Wellington Arms for a drink" etc lines.... Ah, but Tugger! I was hoping he'd be good in this and he was :) Maybe not as crazy as John like I said, but still FUNNY! Munk was doing some pretty weird marching up and down... Tugger gave him a "You really are rather strange" look, and imitated him, shrugged and went back to watching. And then went Munk turned around he actually WHISTLED all innocently and strolled away! EEEhehehe!!
The BARK BARK BARK thing was
going wrong right from the beginning! Munk ended up running from
one side to the other trying to get them in time!!
...And now for something completely different MUNGO AND TEAZER
arrived as Peke and Pol. Munk tried to get them to act right,
which they honestly tried to do.... Then the barking..... Poor
Mungo, he tried so hard!!!! This is going to be hard to explain
and get across here... baaaasically... Mungo, to get things straight
in his head, was trying to point at the right person who should
be barking throughout.... it went like this:
RT:Bark
MJ: Bark
RT: Bark
MJ: Bark (points at Teazer, but says:) Bark!
RT: (confused) Bark?! (glares at Mungo)
Mungo covers his face in shame
and curls up all bashful <-- SO CUTE! Munk glares and sighs
and continues, increasingly irritated...
Munk said "Dour Yorkshire type" very cooly. In a Yorkshire
accent for a start ^^ Yeah, as I said, his narration in this
was v. cool and expressionful.
AW, and Mungo singing confidently, trying to regain his repuation;
"And to those that are frisky and frollical, let my meaning
be perfectly plain..." (pronoucning it "Plyan"
or however you'd write it!) only to have someone yell "PLAIN!!!"
in RP at him!
"When suddenly up from a small basement flat, why who should stalk out but...
THE GREAT RUMPUS CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT............"
Note held, and held, and held.....
....and nothing happens.
Munk rolls his eyes, flops, and everyone mutters in annoyance/disappointment.
...Rumpus Cat runs (yes, runs, no trap door here!) in from the side!
"...AAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!"
"You never saw anything FIERCER...." Rumpus Cat was great, preening his hair and trying to look impressive, just before Munkustrap regarded him with increasing resignation: "...or..... hairier."
Old Deuteronomy took all this rather well, though he'd held his ears in pain at the barking all over the park. He started to sing.... "Jellicle Cats and Dogs all must....."
Rum Tum Tugger, I think, at this point looked rather confused/bored/unimpressed. Mungo and Teazer again sitting together (I THINK?!)
Gah - that's one thing I forgot to mention. I kept trying to watch what was happening in the background, but found it so impossible to keep track of everyone always - there's just so much going on, all the Jellicles doing their own thing sometimes and it's impossible to watch them all....
A CRASH OF DRUMS A FLASH OF LIGHT!!!! Well, actually not drums, explosion SFX.
And TWO people screaming: "MACAVITY!!" Dem AND Bomba. ? Very interesting...
Scatter scatter la la la....
OK, from now on there are only notes... Tis way past midnight.
(Not a sound from the paaavemeeeent, has the moon lost her memryyyyyyyyy.....)
- [I was planning to write these up properly... I probably won't
now, so see what you can make of it!]
Ahem.
Alonzo: black and white (moving
on his line)
Carbucketty/Pounce and Tumble making fun of everyone! Copying
Skimble etc who then came to reprimand them :)
A gavotte AND a jig! (emphasising they can do BOTH!)
Misto teaching Carbucketty(?) their little piroutting thing on
the side of the stage before they dance across... *cute*
THE JELLICLE BALL!!!!!!!!!!!
VERY GOOD.
Viccy, again, light as air, beautiful... Interestingly, Misto/Quaxo
sort of directing her towards Admetus for the 'mating' dance...
Mungo's silly dance on the sidelines! (suspciously marcena like
for a moment!) V cool. (when everyone else was doing fancy stuff,
he'd scratch his nose and try to show off to Teazer with his
own version...)
Lights! They zoom around the stage like Christmas lights gone
mad...
Grizabella was up by one of the Macavity doors, green moon light,
dancing a bit.
Old D trying to calm everyone down from all the spinning...
Tugger and Bomba very eager about whatever they were doing
together!
Skimble... another one with mystic powers... sense of smell :)
Tugger - he's posing not cos he can't dance - he CAN!! But he
poses just cos he's cool.
Cassandra - a lot of the time - sitting alone at the back posing
in impossible poses!! Legs etc
MEMORY
Nice, OK... not stellar, I guess
The acting = good though... way she walks etc
Old D - very very sad.
INTERVAL!
Hot and v thirsty, but meh. Old D autographed my piano music!,
I bought poster (which is now up on my door ^_^)... also there
were fridge magnets & keyrings featuring Tugger and Bomba...
LOL, all the Tugger keyrings were sold out by the time I got
there!
MOMENTS OF HAPPINESS
MUNGOJERRIE AND RUMPELTEAZER!!!!! SO CUTE!!!!! Mungo being all
protective and SERIOUS too. Cute and young and innocent.
Teazer looking - scared? worried? at some things said... Mungo
being all comforting.
Jemima... meh..... didn't like her singing too much...
Complete mystical experience - ALL the cats suddenly taken by
a vision above - moving and singing with wonderful togetherness
- wow atmosphere.
GUS
Hard to watch what was going on in the background for long...
Both Gus and a wonderful young Jellylorum were very engaging.
Jelly = brilliant. Oh, his name! she says with a slightly
embarrassed half-giggle. Etc.... Is really AsparaGUS, hehe, nervous
laugh etc... very very good. Well, he says, in his time
^^
Audience laughing most at silly jokes like cat calls.. well,
I laughed too cos tis funny, but other people seem to also miss
the really funny Tugger stuff though!
FireFROfiddle...?
Fehhhhhhhl.....
Blood curdling noises. Death rattle type thing :) Then a satisfied:
"Mmm!" ('yes, that's it!')
Little false ending - obviously prepared for applause, so had
Gus take bow etc, then hush the audience to continue: "once
crossed the stage..."
These modern productions - with very nice looks to top
corners of the stage disdainfully. These modern productions!
GROWLTIGER
V full of himself @ start, lots of AAAAAARRRR!!
Crew receiving various injuries :)
LOVE the crew's costumes stilll.... very nice quick change with
Gus too. (just noticing how the beginning of the song gives Grid
time to change...)
Growl going all self-pitying at front of stage about missing
ear: "Awww..."
Grid greeting the whole crew first... once her music played,
everyone started sensing and sniffing the air....
More young'n'innocent acting.
Growl thumping the bed/couch thing, Grid coyly refusing, then
finally flinging herself out on it...
Growl striking piano chords along Grid, to her annoyance
Growl starts singing: "Oh 'ow well I remember....."
- jolly irishman! Grid eventually starts getting more annoyed....
not so OTT as sometimes, more sympathetic character...
Grid looks flattered for a moment as Growl seems to want her
to be Lily - but then HE sings what Lily says! Basically telling
a story in which HE plays ALL the characters which v. muchly
annoys her.
Finally on pastoral flute chorus, Grid steals the spotlight,
but only temporarily, Growl steals it back, and finally they
- uncomfortably - share it.
His whole crew gathers around the couch, G & G sit back down
together Growl rubbing his head on her.
Siamese crew around them singing along VERY enthusiastically!!!
With actions & swaying and stuff!!!!!! LOVE IT!
Big clap after final (soaring) chorus and Jelly's last note.
The "Siamese" swarmed aboard......
SHORT but still cool fight between Ghengis & Growl
Grid's little scream: AAH!
No way of hearing the last two verses, everything waaaaay too
loud, people in the audience surreptitiously trying to block
one ear!
GUS
Breaking down finally, most emotional bit of his... Ghengis bows
and fades off....
Rumpelteazer is the most touched here, reaching out to him then
cuddling up to Old D (her, and Jemima, and maybe Mungo? do this
a lot) Mungo & especially Teazer seem to have a lovely close
relationship with Old D...
SKIMBLESHANKS
Kinda to cheer Teazer up, Old D starts and she sings the next
line.
V COOL! I LOVE THIS SONG!!
Glass-green eyes - Mungo falls backwards v. dramatically!
Bagmen - PLAYING CARDS??? *shocked glare*
'More or less' - a bit scrambled...
Woo Woo!! Tugger pumping the air, and pointing to someone to
sneeze.
Do you like your morning tea?? in annoying hostessy type voice
^^
Jemima and Victoria being hilarious and riotous then Jem with
bit of sulky: wasn't me! look.
Lovely seeing the train!!!! Blinded by the light for a minute!
Got to end of song, big round of applause etc... then cute little
encore, all together, v. fun sounding.... to be very much interuppted
by:
MACAVITY!!! - Deme sounding
scared here....
(Ooh, Munk and Deme moments... at the beginning, and little waltz
at the end as well as bits here)
Macavity appearing at top door, then one side of stage, the kidnaps
Old D - convincingly, he struggles but can't get out of the net.
Macavity makes a point to leer and threaten at Demeter in particular.
Song - Deme's character?
AaaaaaAAAAAAAIIIRR swelling coolly here.
Nice big LOUD chorus (don't think it was TOO loud here though)
FIGHT
Macavity pops up upstairs, one side of stage, other - grins disarmingly
and points..... 'Old D' comes up the stairs slowly...
Everyone v. happy...........
Dem edgy..... AHA!
Very effective having Macavity really THROWING off the coat,
and the hood thing. Dem quickly throws them off to the side.....
Macavity never picks Dem up but drags her along the floor - she
seems to go completely limp in terror. Was a very brief moment,
but very scary/effective while it lasted....
Stage fight - good
Macavity running to all sides to be met by hissing cats.... (ooh,
Victoria's attacking me... how scary!!)
Runs up.... makes a few lights on each side explode first before
the big one. Not so much a crackling explosion as the BANG of
HUGE lightbulbs going POP!! Everyone goes Whoo ahh!
MR MISTOFFELEES
28? Conjuring Turn???!! Plus loads of little ones first.
VERY big solo dance. Tugger not competing too much.... but sometimes
seemed like he was? Hmm. Had Teazer and Jem sitting with him,
so looked happy-ish. Seemed eventually bored of Misto's dancing,
tried to do his own version a LITTLE...
Descended on a silver rope to long drum roll.... v. nice.
Tugger - v. nice singing!!
Cass-Deut trick ran v. smoothly. Cass NOT eager to do it....
tried to run away only to be blocked by wall of people..!
Misto doing magic over the red blanket thing, it changes shape
several times.... eventually goes to Victoria and gets her to
spit(?!?) or blow magic air or whatever on his hands and tries
again, this time content and lifts off cover, jumps into Old
D's arms......
Seeming a younger there....
VERY big show off in this song! Not so much youthful thrill of
discovery, he just likes exploding stuff!
Except when making spotlight disappear... that=v cute.
(More cute bits with Teazer and Mungo, Teazer & Old D?)
MEMORY
Sort of realise - gah, tis nearly over! NOO!
Munkus, sounding so certain and grand it's the end... only to
be interuppted!
Griz - thought not as dynamic/able as Chrissie Hammond, voice
not holding to pitch when sounding desperate.... not too good
when collapsing after 3rd verse... dunno, didn't build up enough
or convincingly enough or something.... argh, didn't like Jem's
Sunlight bit much :(
Ooh, but nice how the other cats reacted as one, a slight concerned
movement suddenly forward but not DOING anything when Griz fell
down....
Nice line: "Look. (seeming designed to make them guilty...)
A new day..."
UP UP UP TO....
V. nice. Oh no, it's nearly over feeling again....
Tugger posing etc ^_____^
Skimble straightening his waistcoat before greeting Griz.
Griz bows to Deut - he does this "You bow to no one"
type thing and bows to her instead, she looks staggered and shocked.
VIVAT!!!!!!
The Ad-dressing of Cats
Mungo cute with food talk. V cute!
Ohhhhhhhhhh, CAT!
Staring around at them all... nearly over !!!!!!
Encores etc.....
Tugger getting the audience to clap hardly necessary this time!
I screamed fangirlishly for Tugger of course, also VERY loudly
for Mungo & Teazer regardless of what everyone else was doing.
I clapped hard for EVERYONE - some characters didn't seem to
get anything except the steady beat clap :(
Skimbleshanks music, Mr Misto music.... Jellicle music??
Cassandra hanging around posing alone after addressing before
others came back....
EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! WONDERFUL some characters doing wonderfully
silly OOC (or maybe not so OOC...?) stuff!! Gus, Griz, Old D
dancing disco.... Tantomile dancing with Tugger....
Jelly dragged Gus off - he came back, lay down on the front of
the stage tongue out grinning and sucking up applause - she came
again and bodily dragged him off feet first! Old D doing the
switching knees thing!!!
Then Tugger music (no cats left tho ^^) and go home. Tried to
find stage door, but couldn't. Next time I'll ask....
Couples I found evidence of......
MUNGOJERRIE / RUMPELTEAZER - ooh yes, very much so!!! hehehe. Seriously, no brother and sister I can think of act that way about each other..... *I* have a brother. We. do. NOT. do. that.
MUNKUSTRAP / DEMETER - quite a few cute funny little flirty moments when Munk's not busy and they think no one's watching...
ALONZO / CASSANDRA - um, danced together a couple times looked happy.... people generally stayed away from Cassandra a bit :(
TUGGER / BOMBA - He also kissed
Jemima (right on the mouth!) and there's 'evidence' for him and
EVERYONE, but these two did keep gravitating together quite a
bit....
