I haven’t really decided how often / how many piano pieces I will put up on bandcamp – I’d like to have sheet music to go with them, but you can only do that as an extra with an album….

so sometime I may make an album or three of piano music …

anyway 🙂  This is a standalone.  This is that strange meditative piece from last year – now recorded on an actual piano <3  And now with sheet music available, as I say!

Aphorisms: a heart beneath a stone

I encountered in the street a poor young man who was in love. His hat was old, his coat was worn, his elbows were in holes. Water trickled through his boots, and the stars through his soul.
*
Oh joy of the birds! It because they have nests that they sing.
*
Love is a celestial respiration of the air of paradise.
*
On the day when a woman as she passes before you emits light as she walks, you are lost, you love.
*
True love is in despair and is enchanted over a glove lost or a handkerchief found, and eternity is required for its desires and its hopes. It is composed both of the infinitely great and the infinitely small. Nothing suffices for love: we have happiness, we desire paradise: we possess paradise, we desire heaven.
*
“Does she still come to the gardens?
“No. She has moved away.”
“Where has she gone to dwell?”
“She did not say.”

*
What a melancholy thing not to know the address of one’s soul.
*
If you are a stone, be adamant. If you are a plant, be the tender plant. If you are man, be love.
*
What love commences can be finished by God alone.
*
Love participates of the soul itself. It is of the same nature. It is a point of fire: immortal, infinite— which nothing can contain, which nothing can extinguish.

words from Les Misérables.

recording of my piece ‘Aphorisms’ from last year – not a wonderful quality recording, but listenable!  for 2-part women’s choir.

Synth singing

today I have been learning about synths! ^_^  (Learning just a tiny bit of the technical stuff I should have learnt ages ago but just… made up as I went along…  It’s useful!)

I thought I’d see if I could make some olde sounds like for a game using only logic’s retro synth in analog mode.  listen for the “harp”, “strings”, “acoustic bass”, “clarinet” (a flute is really hard for some reason?) and of course “voice”!

Oboe and strings sketch

this is better!!  gussied up version of earlier, which in itself is an orchestration/accompaniment to an oboe tune.

musical/technical note: I think I have succeeded in a basic way with some more flexible, expansive rhythms between the parts at least at this slow speed…

A lost dream

I dream of walking through an empty house, frantically searching every room for something, for you, and you’re not there.

Back then, when I had really lost you, it was a waking dream: you, in the flutter of a curtain or the wink of a sunbeam, just out of the corner of my eye. I mustn’t, but I turn around and you’re gone.

All the musical references are Polish…The rather oblique one is the shape of the start from this Chopin nocturne, very loosely.
